This is a new trip for CTHOG.

1. On May 8, we will ride to Odessa to the Best Western. Reserve your room for May 8 at (432) 614-4696 or click this link, room rate is 104.00.

2. Then, it's on to Ruidoso.  Please call the La Quinta Reservations Line at 800-753-3757 with this itinerary number 5136B421686922 up to 30 days prior or rooms will be released back to the hotel inventory. Rate is 109.00 for a single and 122.56 for a double. Make your reservation for May 9th-12th, checking out on the 13th. 

3. We head back to Texas, staying in Big Spring at the Day's Inn. (432) 267-5237, ask for Rick. Rick will set you up at the hotel for the 13th. Then we head home on the 14th.

Day 1 - Leave Leander HEB KSU 8:00 am (319 miles)

The Day 1 Route heads out 183, then west on 29, then northwest on 71 to Brady where we'll gas up about 109 miles in. From Brady we continue on 87 into San Angelo where we'll stop for lunch at Cielo Tx (cielotx.com) . After lunch we go another 45 miles and stop in Sterling City for fule, about 230 miles in. After Sterling City we take a left on 158 headed for Midland. We'll take the loop around Midland and get on Hwy that parallels IH20. There we will find Legacy H-D and I thought we might stop in for a Tshirt. A little farther down the road we stop for gas just before arriving at the Best Western for the night. We should arrive there about 5 pm.

Day 2 - Odessa BW to Ruidosa La Quinta (273 mi)

The Day 2 route heads north on 385 to Seminole where we pick up 214 that takes us into Plains. We'll stop in Plains for Gas and stretch legs before heading west on 380. 380 takes us to Roswell where we'll stop for lunch, fuel, and a quick stop at Champion HD for a checkin and tshirt possibility. After that its a straight shot on 380 all the way to Hondo, then a slight left on 70 into Ruidoso.

Day 3 - Scenic Ride to Cloudcroft, White Sands, Worlds largest Pistachio (140 miles total)

On Day 3 we're planning a scenic ride out south of Ruidoso. This ride will take in some beautiful roads heading down to Cloudcroft where there are some great views of White Sands according to Robert. From there we will ride on to Alamagordo for Fuel and Lunch at Rockin BZ Burgers. After lunch we'll head out to White Sands National Park, "like no place else on earth." There is a small cost of about $20 to get into the park if you aren't a national park pass holder. White Sands is optional, but I've never seen it and would really like to at least seeit while we're this close. From White Sands we'll head back north to McGinnis Pistachio Land, the home of the Worlds Largest Pistachio Nut!. We can't pass that up! Its also one of the 10 for 24 destinations, so if you get your picture taken with the ride guide you can send it in for a challenge coin. Ask Scott Herrin about this. From there its north again to Tularosa where we head back east on 70 to Ruidoso. Its only 140 miles but it promises to be a good one.

44 miles - US70 south out of Ruidoso to 244, 244 wiggles through reservation to Cloudcroft
16 miles - On to Alamagordo for Gas/Lunch. Gas at Texaco on way into town. Lunch at Rockin BZ Burgers
18 miles - On to White Sands National Park (Entry Fee about $20 unless you’re a national park pass holder)
23 miles - On to McGinnis Pistachio Land - home of largest pistachio and HD 10 for 24 photo stop
39 miles - North to Tularosa, then back on 70 to Ruidoso
est KSD about 3:30 depending on stops

 

Day 4 - Day off - Enjoy the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort and Casino. Lunch option at Panama Jacks, visit downtown shops, rest and relax.

 

Day 5 - Exploring North of Ruidoso, including Windy Point Overlook, Smokey the Bear, and Capitan (100 miles)

The Day 5 route will be another short but nice one. With a totaal distance of only 100 miles we will still see some stuff. We'll start heading out of town to the north, taking 70 then 48 through town. We'll take a left to climb up towards Ski Apache to stop at the Windy Point Overlook for pictures. From there we go back down the mountain and head north again, taking a left off of 48 onto NM 37 up towards Nogal and the birthplace of Smokey the Bear! We'll have to stop and check out where Smokey got his start. After stopping in to see Smokey we'll head east to Capitan where I am planning to stop for lunch at Oso Grill. After lunch we continue east on 380 for. bit, the take a right on 220 and head back in a meandering direction towards Ruidoso. We'll intersect back with 48, make a left into Ruidoso, then make a left on 70 to take us back to the hotel. A short but nice ride day that should leave us fresh for the long ride home.

Left on 37 - Stay on 37 to its intersection with 380

Back on 380 eastward to Capitan - Lunch at Oso Grill (67 miles)

Continue on 380 , then right on 220

220 back to 48, left on 48

Back thru Ruidoso, left on 70 back to La Quinta

Day 6 - Ruidoso to Big Spring (288 miles)

Day 6 starts the route back home. There's no sugar coating this. It will be pretty long and boring, but its better than working. We head out of Ruidoso to Roswell for gas stop. From Roswell continue east to Plains for another gas stop. From there we'll continue on to Brownfield. I looked for. better choice but came up empty, so its Dairy Queen in Brownfield for lunch. Sorry. After Brownfield we take 137 to Lamesa where we stop for fuel and bio break. From Lamesa  we take 180 then 87 to Big Spring where we'll stop at the Days Inn for the night.

70 miles - 380 East to Roswell - Fuel at Stripes on Rt entering town
100 miles - Continue on 380 to Plains - Fuel on left
28 miles - Continue on 380 to Brownfield, Lunch at DQ in Brownfield RT on 2nd, then Broadway to first and Rt on first

LT on 137 towards Lamesa

39 miles - Fuel in Lamesa on Rt Phillips 66
51 miles - Left on 180, then rt on 87, stay on 87 through Big Spring to Days Inn

Day 7 - Big Spring to Leander HEB (265 miles)

Our last day. Big Spring to Liberty Hill. We'll head out of Big Spring on 87 all the way to San Angelo where we have our first gas stop. From San Angelo we stay on 87 to Brady where we stop again. We'll continue south out of Brady on 377, make a left on 71, thena. left on 29 into Llano. Here's where we have choices. From Llano we can either stop for lunch or press on. We'll make that call at the Brady gas stop based on the will of the group. I was thinking either Coopers BBQ or Hungry Hunter if we do decide to stop. After Liberty Hill its a straight shot into Liberty Hill where we'll have KSD at the middle school and Starbucks. Its going to be a great ride, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with you!

51 miles - Llano - If group wants lunch can do Hungry Hunter or Coopers on Llano - or bypass)
