Event date:
Mon, 06/07/2021 - 8:00am to Fri, 06/11/2021 - 3:00pm

You are invited to join Thom & Mark G. on their return to the Texas Panhandle to visit beautiful Palo Duro State Park, and Caprock Canyon State Park. Along the way we are also planning to visit Cadillac Ranch, The Cross in Gloom, Texas, and return for dinner at the Big Texan Steak Ranch.

Day one (Monday) June 7 will begin with KSU @ Quik Trip in Leander @ 8:00 AM.  Considering the weather will be warm, our first day will be only 390-mile trek. We will be making a lunch stop in Sweetwater, then on to our first overnight destination Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lubbock West, Lubbock, TX.

On days two and three, we will be visiting Texas State Parks.  Vehicle passes ($15) are needed to enter the park and they have a limited number available.  We purchased passes for the early registrants but if you are just now joining in on our fun, you will need to contact [email protected] to be added to the group passes list. We can add some additional vehicles if park passes remain available.

Day two (Tuesday) will be about 250 miles, including visit Caprock Canyon State Park, afterward we will make our way to The Cross in Groom, Texas, and get to travel a portion Route 66 as we make our way to Best Western Palo Duro Canyon Inn & Suites. Plans for dinner at Big Texan Steak Ranch are in the works.

Day three (Wednesday) will start by heading out to the state park before temperatures get too high, then out to Cadillac Ranch, and some more of Route 66. An evening at the theater for the outdoor musical TEXAS is an option for those interested.  Tickets can be purchased at www.texas-show.com/tickets.  Ticket prices range from $22-$40 and dinner can be included for an additional $15.95.  If ordering the tickets online, expect to pay additional fees for processing and theater maintenance of $5.35.  Members are responsible for purchasing tickets.

Return trip will begin on day four (Thursday).  Plans are still in development, but there will be some new roads as we ride south to bed down at LaQuinta by Wyndham Abilene.  Those who attended the state HOG rally in Abilene may remember staying here, across from Kent’s Harley-Davidson.

Day five (Friday), June 11 will be a comparatively short ride leading directly to KSD @ 12:00 noon at QT, Leander.  Total ride mileage will be approximately 1600 miles.
